President John Adams wrote, “Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” Our world needs moral leaders who are educated in Christian faith, practice, and reason.

Equipping students to know God

Classical education holds a long tradition that emphasizes the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty. Christian Classical education is designed to enable students to better know, glorify, and enjoy God.

It invokes the Socratic Method—engaging students through thought-provoking questions—and leans heavily on theology—the Queen of the Sciences—in addition to natural, human, and philosophical sciences. In this way, students of the classical tradition can grow into godly leaders who are able to influence culture and society.

Preparing future leaders

Northwestern will establish a robust Christian classical honors college that promises to prepare future leaders with a rigorous and comprehensive survey of the great thinkers and texts that shaped Western Civilization. In this intensive liberal arts and humanities program, Northwestern students will learn to think critically, wrestle with complex ideas, and develop clear and compelling arguments that support their ideas.

By 2030, Northwestern’s honors college will grow to roughly 10 percent of the traditional undergraduate population. Northwestern will distinguish itself as the only classical Christian honors college in the upper Midwest.
